About Me

My Name Is Robin M. Newsome. I am a single mother, medical professional, Bronzeville resident, and the Thrifted Candle Company owner. Born out of my desire to be creative and productive, came the formation of the Thrifted Candle Company. I love scented candles and I'm intrigued by the process of making them. After talking myself out of taking a candle making class several times due to a fear of failure, I finally connected with Moesha Thomas of Local Art Studio. I learned the wonderful, colorful, and imaginative art of candle making. My passion for the creative process grows with every candle I pour.
Making candles is cathartic for me. I was born with Sickle Cell Anemia, a disease that affects my red blood cells. Stress, physical trauma, and frigid temperatures bring on my crisis. Making candles helps reduce stress and helps to keep the painful attacks under control,
We make our candles with care and we pay great attention to detail. We use eco-friendly materials and recycled, thrifted, and repurposed vessels. Our dyes are vegan and cruelty-free. We use natural soy wax grown from soy beans. The scents we use are clean, meaning they are 100% phthalate-free. We make our candles to soothe your soul, give you hope, create ambiance and warm light in the darkness. Our goal is to make your home a more fragrant and brighter place one thrifted candle at a time.
